Yielded Up

28 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Yielded Up
In the name of the Father and the + Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord God always uses means by which he sends his gifts. He performed a great sign. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are sparred. There is a fourth person in the furnace visible to the king. Through Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Nebuchadnezzar knows the living God. The king acknowledges the great sacrifice of these men, “…and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.” By faith, these men feared, loved, and trusted in God above all things. Against threat of the mightiest king and the flames of fire set against them, they set their hearts on Christ. It was by faith that they yielded up their bodies to the living God, knowing that He had promised to care for them forever. He cares for you. Against the mightiest of devils, he has delivered you. Against death itself, he has rescued you. The Son of God yielded up his own body as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world. He took the flames of God’s wrath so that you would not. Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, forever! In the name of + Jesus. Amen.
