The Forever Priest

15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,
                  “You are a priest forever,
      after the order of Melchizedek.”

Heb 7:15–17

The Forever Priest
Christ’s priesthood is unique. Unlike the Levitical priests, Jesus does not serve by human lineage or earthly command. His priesthood rests on His indestructible life, a life given on the cross and reclaimed in the resurrection. This is the fulfillment of God’s promise to raise up a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The Levitical priests repeatedly offered sacrifices, which could not fully atone for sin. In contrast, Jesus, our eternal High Priest, offered Himself once for all, bearing the sins of the world on the cross. His resurrection confirms the sufficiency of His sacrifice and establishes His priesthood forever. Through Jesus, we have direct access to God, for His intercession never ceases. His priesthood assures us that the forgiveness won at the cross is complete and enduring. Rest in this certainty: Christ’s eternal priesthood guarantees your eternal redemption.
