Faith Under Fire

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”
Daniel 3:13-15

Faith Under Fire
King Nebuchadnezzar’s fury burned hot against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He gave them one last chance to bow before the golden image, warning them that no god could deliver them from his hand. The world still makes such threats. It demands compromise and insists that faith in Christ is powerless in the face of suffering. But we know better. The Lord who stood with the three men in the furnace is the same Lord who bore the fiery wrath of God against our sin. On the cross, Jesus faced the full fury of judgment in our place. The world’s threats are empty, for Christ has conquered sin, death, and the devil. Like the three men, we do not need to fear. Whether in life or death, we belong to the One who delivers. His cross is our victory.
