A Priest Forever in Christ

11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

A Priest Forever in Christ
Perfection could not come through the Levitical priesthood, for the law only pointed to our need for a Savior. Jesus, from the tribe of Judah, not Levi, fulfills God’s promises in a way the law never could. His priesthood, like Melchizedek’s, is eternal and not bound by lineage or human regulations. Jesus stands as the perfect High Priest because His sacrifice is perfect. The cross is the altar where He offered His own body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Unlike the Levitical priests who needed to continually offer sacrifices, Christ’s one sacrifice is sufficient for all time. In Christ, we see God's grace and faithfulness. He established a new covenant, one not dependent on our works but on His finished work. Through His cross and resurrection, we are reconciled to God and made holy. Let us cling to our eternal High Priest, who lives to intercede for us.
