This is My Body

And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

This is My Body
This changes everything. The promises of the Old Testament, the Word of the prophets, are fulfilled and completed in this Jesus. The meal that is a memorial meal for all time is seen complete in the one that is eternal. He offers to you and to me his body and his blood to eat and to drink. He offers it to you and me as a foretaste of the meal to come. This is the meal that will last forever in the courts of heaven. He offers to the disciples and to you that which was used to pay for sins. He puts his very body and blood upon the lips of his beloved. He offers to his church the very thing he washes and wraps us in when we are baptized. It is the blood of Jesus that makes us righteous. The blood of Jesus is all we need.
