Eyewitnesses

And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.
Mark 14:51–52

Eyewitnesses
They came by veil of darkness so that no one would know, but even in the dark there were eyewitnesses of the betrayal. Jesus is handed over into the hands of sinners. Jesus goes to die for you and me and it is recorded for us. It has long been thought that this young man is Mark, the evangelist. Whether it is or not, God sees fit to put eyewitnesses everywhere. It is for your sake that he does this. The pages of Scripture are not just some collection of interesting fiction. They are the pages of eyewitness accounts that were carried along by God himself. All the spots and blemishes that a normal author would leave out, God leaves in. Here we see the real work of God: forgiving sins by the blood of Jesus. When Jesus dies, he restores us. When Jesus dies, he takes away our shame and guilt and allows us to stand before God again.
