It is the Season

On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

It is the Season
It doesn’t matter. He is the Lord of creation. His Word makes things happen. The creation listens to his voice. You and I listen to his voice. He is in that way the Good Shepherd. He is the One that has created good works for you to do. He has defied the seasons. He has set up what seem to be impossible tasks, but with him all things are possible. He comes to you in his Word and bids you be nourished in him. He comes to you with his own body and blood and bids you rejoice in the forgiveness of sins and his victory over impossible things. He has ushered in a new season of life for you. The fruit is abundant, but only if we are connected to him. We have life because he died. We rejoice because he lives with us.
