Gracious Speech
Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Gracious Speech
The tongue can be a difficult thing to have under control. Saint James says that every wild animal can be tamed, but the human tongue cannot. It must be by the intervention of Jesus that the foolish talk leaves our mouth. The seasoning that matters is the Salt of Jesus’ cross and resurrection. You must be changed by him. His work among us is performative and benefits us greatly, but he is also an example for us. The Holy Spirit seasons us by Word and Sacrament. He gathers us together as his people and makes us holy by his work and dwelling among us. Thanks be to God.
