Spiritual Strength
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Eph 3:14–19

Spiritual Strength
We spend a lot of time working on ourselves. Our society spends billions on health and fitness each year. It seems that every time you turn around, there is a new health craze promising a longer life with the perfect physique. And too often, in pursuit of physical strength, we neglect our spiritual strength. An oft-seen pun on many church signs reminds us that seven days without prayer makes one weak. The point is that when we are not regular in attending to the spiritual needs of our neighbors and ourselves, there is a danger of a weakening faith. God tells us to come to Him in every need, in every sorrow, in every joy. A life spent in contemplation of God’s wisdom, grace, and love strengthens our faith as it draws us to Him and His gifts offered on Sundays. As Paul considers God’s wisdom, grace, and love, he breaks out in prayer and praise. The study of God’s Word naturally combines with prayer and praise in the Divine Service, where Christ’s gifts are given out, and we receive them with thanksgiving. May our heavenly Father let these verses be our prayer for ourselves, our neighbors, and our church today.
