A Good Teacher
I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:14-16

A Good Teacher
What makes a good student? Is it their desire to learn? Their ability to learn? These, of course, are important, but above all, what makes a good student is a good teacher. St. Paul here commends those who have studied and learned the truth of Christ Jesus. These Roman Christians Paul describes as “able to instruct one another.” They have learned so much that they now can even instruct others in the knowledge they have attained. Yet Paul is not writing them to brag about his ability to teach, for it was not him that enlightened the Romans. Their eyes, minds, and hearts were opened to the truth of Christ crucified the same way ours were, through the Word. God's Word is the greatest teaching we have in this life because it makes us wise to salvation by the working of the Holy Spirit. So, no matter our intelligence level, our knowledge of the truth does not depend upon the student but on the Teacher. The Word made flesh, Jesus Christ, has taught us the truth through the Holy Spirit. We can now look to the cross and the empty tomb and know the truth of our salvation.
