God’s Choice

And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved, for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” And as Isaiah predicted, “If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring, we would have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah.”

God’s Choice
Paul was a man of great angst and sorrow. Having described himself as a Hebrew of Hebrews, the unbelief of his fellow Jews, to whom God had given so much, caused Paul to grieve for them immensely. His earnest desire was for all, Jew and Gentile alike, to hear the saving Gospel and have life in Christ. Some were questioning whether God had kept His promise to Abraham to make him a great nation. Countering these objections, Paul insists that God’s Word has not failed, and He is not unjust in His choices. Unbelievers sit under God’s judgment, placing themselves in spiritual peril. Yet God is patient, desiring to show mercy on us all. Therefore, Paul points us to the cross, where true salvation lies. May the Lord give us a penitent heart and confidence in His grace. May we never tire of giving Him thanks for choosing us and calling us to faith in Christ.
