Watch Yourself
“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” And every day he was teaching in the temple, but at night he went out and lodged on the mount called Olivet. And early in the morning all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.

Watch Yourself
The signs are obvious, but our attention to them is not. We let so much distract us in this world. The sleep of our own passions and our sins cloud our judgment and we are kept from seeing the signs and the Word that has been delivered to us for our salvation. We have the clear promise that Jesus is returning. He comes for the resurrection of all flesh. He comes to take you to himself in heaven. But the time of his coming might sneak up on those that are daydreaming or worse, sleeping, and unaware. So keep watch of yourself. Use the Law to discipline yourself. Meditate on the Word of God that has been given you. Love your neighbor as yourself. Pray for those in your life. None of this would be possible if Jesus had not first given you his Word and went to the cross for you. We are awake only in the Word and by the Spirit. It is his doing and it is marvelous.
