Desperation

And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” And he went with him.

Desperation
In desperation, we might find that we will do things that, under normal circumstances, we would never dream of doing. And when it comes to protecting our children, this is most certainly true. Jarius, one of the rules of the synagogue, was in such a situation. He was an important man with many duties and responsibilities. Most of the other men in his situation were opposed to Jesus and His followers and wanted nothing to do with them. But Jarius, in his hour of need sought out Jesus. He laid aside his dignity and reputation in the eyes of his fellow men and fell to his knees before the Lord asking for a miracle. His daughter's love sent him to Christ because he knew that only Christ could save her. Likewise, in faith, we turn to the only cure for our souls, the Son of God, Christ Jesus. We are desperate to cure ourselves from the plague of sin, death, and the devil. If we attempt the cure on our own, we fail. Only the great Physician has power over all that ails the world and ourselves. The bitter cure was accomplished on the cross so that the sweet remedy could be delivered to us through the soothing Words of the Gospel. May we always turn to Christ in faith to receive His medicine of mercy and salvation.
