He Came to Call the Sinners
He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

He Came to Call the Sinners
The world expects God to abandon the sinner and flock to the righteous. One of the problems is that the world thinks it is righteous. Jesus comes to call the sinner so that he can make new what has become bad by sin and death. He comes to make you his own by his work on the cross. Thus, he sheds his blood for you and then sends his apostles and pastors into the world to tell you about it. In the declaring, you become the processors of it. In the proclaiming, you are made new in him. In the proclaiming, he dwells with you with all of his treasures. So he comes to the sinner by sending a sinner (your pastor) to preach to you. Thanks be to God that he has loved us this way. The Holy Spirit is active to deliver and to comfort. The sinner is made righteous by the blood of the Lamb of God.
