Time Is Fulfilled
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:14–15

Time Is Fulfilled
We are told in God’s Word that there is a season to everything. The people of Chirst’s day knew these verses well. As Jesus begins His earthly ministry He reminds everyone of this. The time had come for the Kingdom of God to be opened to all who would believe. This Kingdom comes in the advent of Jesus, for that is His purpose in the incarnation, to fulfill all of God’s promises about the salvation of the world. Throughout His ministry, Jesus invites people to enjoy God’s kind rule by living under His grace and righteousness. On the one hand, Jesus’ message sounds much like the message of John and the prophets of old. On the other hand, the arrival of the Messiah fulfills prophecy and ushers in a new era. The Church’s message today has the same combination of new and old. We still focus on the age-old problem of sin and human failure. But the Gospel delivers the forgiveness of sins and, with it, the hope of an eternal future with God. May our loving God help us to see Him clearly and so believe that His kingdom is still among us. May we be moved by Him to a steadfast hope for the future and to daily repentance and new life.
