Eyes on Jesus

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Eyes on Jesus
The Christian life is a race, not a sprint, but a long endurance run. We do not run alone. The saints who have gone before us bear witness to God’s faithfulness. Their lives testify that He preserves His people to the end. But we do not fix our eyes on them, we fix our eyes on Jesus. He is the founder and perfecter of our faith. By His cross, He bore our sin, enduring its shame to bring us salvation. Now, He is seated at the right hand of God, victorious over sin, death, and the devil. Because He has finished the race, we have the confidence to press on. Lay aside the weight of sin. Run with endurance, trusting in Christ’s strength, not your own. When your legs grow weak, look to the cross, where Jesus ran the race for you and won the crown of life.
